Vernin's Reviews - Volume Two

Alright my peeps,
It's time for the second installment of my reviews. It surely has been awhile!
This time I'll be reviewing a science-fiction film, and a PC game. Now I've mentioned this in the first volume, but for you new readers I shall say it again: I usually don't review things of horrible quality. So you can expect there to be 10 out of 10 scorings quite often in my reviews. Actually I think I'll move to a 5-star scoring system this time.

Science-Fiction Film 

Silent Running

        Silent Running is a 1972 film set in the distant future. It takes place on a space freighter carrying various cargo, most importantly: many bio-domes containing forests from Earth. Our planet Earth's environment had finally crumbled at the hands of man, and man resorted to preserving the ecosystems. 

        When the freighter carrying the forests is ordered to destroy the domes and return to Earth to continue commercial freighting, one man decides that it cannot be. He is determined to preserve the forests at any cost. 

        The set design in this film is great. If you like the old special effects like seen in Star Wars and other space films from that era, then you'll surely enjoy the imagery in this movie. 

        There are also autonomous "Drones." They are simply two-legged boxes with a retractable arm. They really spice up the movie a lot. 

Here is the main character with his two drone friends: Huey and Dewey.

Now, there is one down-side to this film. Unfortunately there are three really annoying songs throughout the movie. They are horrible. But besides that, I find it tough to find a flaw in this production.

PC Game

Command and Conquer - Generals

        This game has been out on the shelves for years now. But I just recently started playing it again. And I thought it would be nice to do a  review. 

        As some of you may know, this game is of the Real Time Strategy genre. You can expect the same premise as all of the older 

C & C games. Build up a base, create units, manage resources, research new technologies and so forth. 

        What puts this title apart from its predocessors, is that the graphics are completely 3D. Also the technologies seem to be a lot more plausible than in the older titles. 

        There are three races to choose from. The Chinese, the Americans and the GLA - which is essentially a Middle-Eastern terrorist organization. They are all pretty well rounded, although playing against the USA gets frustrating sometimes. The GLA is my favorite. They have biological weapons, and best of all a SCUD Launcher. 

All in all though, it's not my favorite RTS game. I'm a StarCrafter at heart. :3

But if you're looking for a new game to mess around with and you enjoy the RTS genre, then check er out. The voices for the GLA workers will soothe your soul. With great lines such as: "Can I please have a hammer?" to: "I want to see my family."

I hope you've enjoyed Volume Two. It didn't have as much content as the first one, and that is due to me brain not thinking of enough shit to review.
